Explore games, crafts, snacks and books all about birdies, bugs and butterflies in this spring version of our family book club. This is a "kit only" program. Registration required.

**NOTE:  Kits contain supplies for 1 of each craft.  If you have multiple children in your family, please register each child separately.**

This family book club is brought to you by the letter "B". We're gearing up for spring break and the birdies, bugs and butterflies should soon start making an appearance out our windows. Pick up a kit filled with crafts, game ideas, book suggestions, and snack recipe fun to do together over your spring holiday from school. (Note:  This is NOT a Zoom meeting event.) 

This program has supplies to be picked up at the KidSpace Youth Reference Desk at the Main Library (270 N. Grove Ave, Elgin). Program supplies will be ready for pick up between Friday, March 17th through Friday, March 24th.  The kit will include the basic materials & instructions for the suggested craft projects.  You will need to secure the ingredients for the snack ideas as well as some general crafting and gaming items listed below.  Best for families with children in K-5th grade.  Kits that are not picked up by Friday, March 24th, or registered patrons that don't make alternate arrangements by emailing crzeppa@gailborden.info, by Friday, March 24th will forfeit their kits to patrons on our wait list. 

If you would like to pick up the supplies at the Main Library Drive Up Window instead of inside the library at the Youth Desk, please call the Youth Desk at 847-429-4685 before arriving at the library.  

Program Supplies in the bag:

1 two-page packet “Spring Memory Game” on white cardstock

1 “Balancing Butterfly” template on white cardstock

1 toothpick

1 full-length yellow pipe cleaner

1 full-length black pipe cleaner

1 full-length white pipe cleaner

1 googly eye

1 round self-stick magnet

1 EACH of red, yellow, orange, green, darker blue, and purple paper strips

1 EACH of THREE DIFFERENT LENGTH light blue strips

1 EACH of THREE DIFFERENT LENGTH white strips

1 small yellow rectangle

1 small piece of black pipe cleaner

1 “Spring Fingerprint ABC” template on white cardstock

1 “Birdies, Bugs & Butterflies” plan template

Program Supplies to gather at home for CRAFTS:

Scissors

Colored pencils/markers/crayons

Clear Tape

2 pennies or washers of identical size

Liquid Glue (such as Elmer's or Aleene's)

Glue stick (optional)

Stapler

RULER (important for measuring strips for one craft) 

Plastic lid or plate

Thin black marker or colored pencil

Ingredients to gather at home for SNACKS:  (if you want to make all snacks suggested)

6-8 full-sized donuts

Pretzel sticks

Candy eyes (or chocolate chips)

Jelly, Peanut Butter, or other type of spread

2 gumdrops (or lollipops)

Toothpicks

Cream cheese spread

Crackers

Celery

Raisins

Pretzel twists

2 or more peaches (or other fruits- see plan for details)

Mini marshmallows

Chocolate Chips

Pretzel logs

Cereal (any type)

Nuts (optional)

M&Ms

Ingredients to gather at home for GAMES:

1-2 balls of string/yard

1-2 plastic bugs or bug pictures on cardboard

Bird seed or cereal

Small buckets

Cups

Spoons

Mud or air-dry clay 

Natural materials- grass, leaves, twigs, small stones, flowers, etc.
