Free Tax Preparation

Free tax preparation for individuals & families who qualify for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Asistencia gratuita con preparación de impuestos sin cita.

In partnership with Livingston Taxes, Gail Borden's Main Library is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) location. VITA provides free tax help to people who generally make $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, limited English-speaking taxpayers, and seniors who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Hours for walk-in service at the library:

  • Thursdays from 4 pm to 8 pm
  • Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm

Service will generally be available in both English and Spanish.


Prefer to schedule an appointment?

  • In person and virtual appointments are available at Free For You Services, located at 2090 Larkin Ave #1A, Elgin, IL 60123. 
  • Call (847) 529-1440 after January 19th for tax-related questions or to schedule an appointment.

Preparación gratuita de impuestos en la biblioteca

Free For You Services proveerá asistencia gratuita con preparación de impuestos sin cita. Preparación VITA esta disponible para personas que generalmente tienen $67,000 o menos en ingresos, personas con discapacidades y personas que tienen dominio limitado del inglés. 

El servicio estará disponible del sabado 24 de enero 2026 al sabado 11 de abril 2026.  Individuos que califiquen para el programa El Programa de Ayuda Voluntaria a los Contribuyentes (VITA, por sus siglas en inglés) pueden pasar sin cita de las 4 pm. a las 8 pm. los jueves y de las 9 am. a la 1 pm. los sábados en la biblioteca principal, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
